I hope you be led to share it with as many believers as possible by forwarding this message or sending the links. I think it's a timely word for the Church. Thank you. God bless you and keep fighting the good fight!
Everyone will be tempted. It is not a sin to be tempted. It is part of the environment of this corrupt world we live in. As long as you live on this earth, you will be tempted. We cannot escape it. Jesus Himself was tempted. However, He never gave in to those temptations and committed sin. That, in fact, is why He came.
We, on the other hand, are all sinners. On our own, no matter how hard we try, we do not stand a chance against temptation. We will still sin. Whether it is a little sin or big sin, it doesn't matter - sin is sin. Sin is a cancer of the soul. Even if it were possible for us to commit only one single sin in our entire life, we would still have deadly cancer on our soul. There is only one way to get rid of it. There is only one cure for spiritual cancer, that is to ask Jesus to come into your life and take it away. Literally ask Him! "Jesus, please come into my life and take my sins away!"
How can He do that? Because He already has done the work and provided us with the cure. He took the spiritual cancer of sin into His own body and destroyed it through His death on the cross. Only Jesus could do this because when He was tempted He never sinned. Unlike us, He never contracted spiritual cancer. So, when His body died, His Spirit continued to live. Death could not hold on to Him and He came back to life to show us how we can be free from the cancer of sin which eats away at our souls. He is not only able to cleanse our souls at death, but the Lord stands ready right now to help us avoid sin when we are being tempted in our daily lives. Jesus says,"Trust Me. Ask Me and I will come help you."
The following is a short list of Bible verses about the nature of sin and temptation in our lives and how we are to deal with them. Some are quotes from Jesus and others are by men of God who have struggled with sin. We all need reminders. I know I do and I plan to bookmark this list and keep it handy so I can refer back to it often. May the Lord be with you as your strive to live a life of holiness in this corrupt world. You are not alone!
1 Corinthians 10:12-14
"No temptation has seized you except what is common to man.
God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.
When you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
If you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!"
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.
The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
”When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.”
For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does God tempt anyone;
each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.
Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin;
and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
Do not be deceived, my dear brothers.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
Perseverance must finish its work
so that you may be mature and complete,not lacking anything.
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial,
because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life
that God has promised to those who love him.”
“If you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door;
it desires to have you,
but you must master it.”
Romans 7 & 8
“If I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it,
but it is sin living in me that does it.
So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me.
For in my inner being I delight in God’s law;but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the lawof my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members.
What a wretched man I am!
Who will rescue me from this body of death?
Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law,
but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.
There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,
because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.
The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace;
the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.
Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.
You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit,
if the Spirit of God lives in you.
Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation - but it is not to the sinful nature,
For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but
if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,
because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear,
but you received the Spirit of sonship.And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”
The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
Now if we are children, then we are heirs-heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ,
if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with
the glory that will be revealed in us.”
“Thanks be to God …
You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity
and to ever-increasing wickedness,
now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness.
What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of?
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God,
the benefit you reap leads to holiness,and the result is eternal life. “
Hebrews 2 & 3
“Because he himself suffered when he was tempted,
he is able to help those who are being tempted.
Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling,
fix your thoughts on Jesus,
the apostle and high priest whom we confess.
He was faithful to the one who appointed him.”
